Person First Language
Person first language is what the community of families and organizations advocate for. Person first language encourages people around the person with a disability to see them as a person first and not define them by the diagnosis they have. For decades the stigma attached to persons with Down syndrome has always affected how people in their community see them. He / she is an individual who happens to have Down syndrome. They are not Down syndrome nor a downsy/downs child. It should always be a person/child with Down syndrome or better yet use their name.
